A Slovak singularity and the largest non-commercial event in the world devoted to children’s illustration, the Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava 2025 (BIB), is returning after nearly 60 years to the premises of the Slovak National Gallery. It was precisely at the SNG in 1967 that the history of this world-renowned event first began.

The jubilee 30th edition of BIB will take place from 4 October 2025 to 11 January 2026. This international competitive exhibition of original illustrations for children’s and young people’s books will showcase the very best that has emerged in the world of children’s illustration over the past two years.

During the Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava, art lovers will also be able to visit an accompanying exhibition prepared by the Slovak National Gallery: Brunovský – Hložník – Kállay: The Labyrinth of Art and the Mirror of the Soul. The exhibition presents works by the unique Slovak illustrators and painters Vincent Hložník, Albín Brunovský, and Dušan Kállay.

These artists played a major role in the emergence and development of the Slovak school of illustration. Each of them left a profound mark on the education of several generations of Slovak artists, particularly through the diversity of artistic genres rooted in meticulous drawing – the essential foundation of visual art.
