The communist regime suppressed any eccentricities in the public space. Standing out from the crowd on the street – whether in appearance or behavior – was suspicious and dangerous.

The temporary society of intense experience organized spontaneous street actions that wanted to break the fearful fellow citizens out of passivity, at least for a while. At the same time, they showed what State Security is willing to punish. Will they be arrested if they lie on the ground in a narrow, busy street?

This quiet resistance to totalitarian power encouraged passers-by to think about who the public space should belong to in the first place.
