The communist regime suppressed any eccentricities in the public space. Standing out from the crowd on the street – whether in appearance or behavior – was suspicious and dangerous.

The event, called "Week of Fictional Culture", showed fictional marketing behind the Iron Curtain of barely imaginable cultural production (a concert by Bob Dylan and ABBA, a screening of Ingmar Bergman's film, exhibitions by Salvador Dali, René Magritte, etc.), which was meant to highlight the cultural closedness of our world and to train the vigilance of its guardians at the time.

This quiet resistance to totalitarian power encouraged passers-by to think about who the public space should belong to in the first place.
