Mednyánszky liked to portray tramps, beggars or labourers. He wanted to show their “splendid and fearful face” (Stefan Zweig). Their psychic experiences and the secrets in the depths of their spirit were focused in the intensive gazes of their gleaming eyes, which had evidently seen and lived through a great deal.
