Mednyánszky sketched incessantly, whether in cafes, in social gatherings, on a train, or on his rambles, as his numerous extant sketchbooks demonstrate. They also contain coloured sketches, moods expressed by a number of lines and different variants of the same theme. They are a proof of the everyday routine and self-assurance of the artist when creating sketches of figural and landscape works. One finds notes, addresses, and other brief inscriptions in them.
