Edmund Gwerk turned his handicap of having only one eye into a self-assured and almost iconic countenance, with a visual command of the world around him and reciprocating the viewer’s gaze. For Gwerk, the artist’s temperament was the filter of the feelings and impressions that came onto the canvas from surrounding Nature.
