Bazovský's solitude paintings resemble visions or slowly forgotten dreams. At first glance, they are lonely and pensive, but one can feel a kind of soothing warmth about them. The rich, warm tones of the colors balance the sadness of the painter's reflections on humility, faith, life and death.

After the communist coup in 1948, Bazovský refused to submit to the engineered optimism that the regime demanded in its new art. After being dismissed from the studio in Martin, the painter retreated to Orava for a creative isolation, where he continued to create faithfully to his artistic opinion in poverty and with failing health.
