Alexander Salontay painted all his life, but after a negative experience with communist censorship, he hardly exhibited his work at all. Since the 1960s, the artist has moved through several styles, techniques and themes. One of the attitudes is represented by a series of paintings with the motif of landscapes, facades of country houses, fragments of architecture and gardens.

As pictorial memories from his childhood, the canopies of familiar trees and especially the shabby walls of village houses, constantly repainted with rollers with an almost canonical motif, have returned to his work. In places, the artist's handwriting almost simulates the authentic texture and fragility of whitewash wall paint.
